PAGERWESI

Pagerwesi holiday ,the word literally means iron fence when Hindu followers worship Sanghayang Pramesti Guru as lord of the universe and pray forstro mental defence against any negative temptations .Held at every family temple and holy place throughout Bali.

TUMPEK LANDEP

The day devoted to Sanghyang Pasupati, the lord of all metal instruments when blessing ceremony is given to heirlooms, weapons and other metal tools (including cars) for magical power and proper function, held at every family compound, especially at  smith and garages.

 

MELASTI

The day of Hindhus people to do the procession of rites for the temple paraphernalia, including the pratima or holy effigy to the beach, lake, spring water or river in Balinese costume and accompanied by gamelan.The philosophy of this particular melasti rite to Balinese is cleanse all impure things of human as well as the universe and to take the essences of happiness and sadness. Within those happiness and sadness, we can find the essence of life.

TAWUR AGUNG KESANGA, PENGERUPUKAN AND OGOH – OGOH PARADE

Tawur Agung and caru are  sacrifice rituals that hold one day before the nyepi day. The ceremony itself usually held in crossroad of village around noon.. On the same dayon sunset time there will an event called Pengerupukan, family member will walking around their compound bringing fire torch and make a lot of noise by kulkul ( traditional bamboo bell ). And than after that  there are parade ogoh – ogoh. Ogoh – Ogoh has a form of giant monster doll in the form of demon characters as symbol of evil (bhuta). The purpose of the overall ceremony that held on this day is to neutralize the bad force/spirit (bhuta) so it is not any longer becomes disturbance but instead become positive force for the good human and universe.

NYEPI

Nyepi holiday (tahun Baru caka 1931), The Balinese New Year Caka 1931, it is a day of total quiet and stillness, which is implemented as no fire lit, no work done, no journey taken and no amusement enjoyed, but fasting, meditation and self introspection to be done instead of.

NGEMBAK GENI AND MED - MEDAN

One day after nyepi it’s call ngembak geni when a member of this Banjar Kaja Desa adat Sesetan took place special ritual med – medan, it’s start at 03.00 pm in the afternoon. A referee will signal to start the game where each group gets close to pull each other, until the boys kiss the girls on the cheek. A traditional baleganjur orchestra with harsh but melodious sounds, will accompany the ritual to encourage  the spirit of each of the participants.

 

KIDS PERFORMANCE

Every Saturday and Sunday at the Puputan Square.

 

SHADOW PUPPETS PERFORMANCE

Once a month on the full-moon night,in front of Jagatnatha Temple.
